Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers

Design, Manufacture & Service

At Allied Heat Transfer we design, manufacture and service Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers.

Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers
Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers

Our Shell & Tube heat exchangers are widely used for liquid to liquid and liquid to gas applications such as oil cooling, condensing, jacket water or gas cooling. Our clients are mainly from the Marine, Resources and Industrial sectors.

Every effort is put into providing the optimum design of Heat Exchanger for our client's conditions taking into account the performance requirements, environment, safety, material selection, service schedules and required service life. Our design staff are very experienced in heat exchangers and are skilled in providing the best solution so time spent at the design stage is time well spent.

Design capabilities include AS 1210, AS 1228, ASME [Div 1 & 2], BS 5500. For proprietary design Heat Exchangers we try where possible to offer removable tube-stack Heat Exchangers to our clients as this design allows for easy future maintenance of the shell side and a floating tube stack also accommodates thermal expansion and generally increases the service life of a unit.

Shell & Tube ExchangerU-Tube Heat Exchangers and fixed tube-stack Heat Exchangers are of course also available as they are best suited to some applications. Heat Exchanger size is calculated to achieve optimum flow regimes in relation to heat transfer, low fouling and scaling. Exchanger materials are carefully selected so as to minimise erosion & corrosion and wherever possible we try to use materials that are readily available in common sizes for short lead times and compatibility with further orders and re-builds.

When the need for a heat exchanger is urgent as in the case of a breakdown then we have a large range of heat exchangers in stock ready for immediate delivery and our experienced staff will select the one most suited to the application.

Our workshop staff have decades of experience in the manufacture and re-building of Heat Exchangers and we have the ability to clean, test, repair and re-build/re-tube Shell & Tube Exchangers. Heat Exchangers are tested in accordance with the standard and pressure test certificates are issued.

Whether your need is for a custom designed Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger, an "Off the Shelf Heat Exchanger", a de-scale & test, repair or re-tube then just contact us and we'll be pleased to help.

Gasketed & Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Gasketed Plate Heat ExchangerThe Plate Heat Exchanger is basically a series of corrugated plates and rubber gaskets sandwiched together to allow a flow of hot fluid through one side of the plates and cold through the other.

Allied Heat Transfer have two types of plate heat exchanger:

  • The gasketed plate heat exchanger and
  • The brazed plate heat exchanger

the difference being that the plates are separated by gaskets or are fixed together by brazing.

Plate Heat exchangers are efficient, compact and in the case of the gasketed type have a degree of versatility because plates can be added or subtracted if the duty changes. Gasket plate heat exchangers are custom built by adding any number of pre-made plates to standard frame sizes.

Advantages of the Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger:

  • Easy assembly and disassembly
  • Compact and require less space for maintenance
  • Plate number can be changed if the duty changes
  • Any gasket leaks become obvious as fluids leak out to atmosphere
  • Great heat transfer efficiency allow for compact design
  • Low fouling if properly designed

Brazed Heat Exchangers

Brazed plate heat exchangers are as efficient as the gasketed type. The number of plates cannot be changed and they are not normally considered serviceable except for chemical cleaning. Brazed plate exchangers are generally used where both hot and cold fluids are relatively clean.

Servicing of Plate Heat Exchangers

Plate with New GasketGasketed Plate Heat Exchangers can be serviced on site however it is often less troublesome to bring the exchanger or plates into the workshop.

Disassembled plates are cleaned, neutralised and inspected for damage or cracking. The cleaned plates are then re-gasketed and cured before being re-assembled into the frame. The Completed Plate Exchanger is then pressure tested before return for service.

At Allied Heat Transfer we offer a design and problem solving service, new Plate Heat Exchangers, additional plates & gaskets and a cleaning/re-gasketing service.
